The ancient art of fire dancing began hundreds of years ago by the people of Polynesia. It is hard to know exactly where in Polynesia it began, since the area spans over 4,000 square miles
Fire performance using different techniques is a part of the historic culture of some areas of the world. The oldest practice of fire performance is Samoa known as Siva Afi and fire knife. The fire knife dance has its roots in the ancient Samoan exhibition called “ailao” – the flashy demonstration of a Samoan warrior’s battle prowess through artful twirling, throwing and catching, and dancing with a war club while on fire. The ‘ailao could be performed with any war club and some colonial accounts confirm that women also performed ‘ailao at the head of ceremonial processions, especially daughters of high chiefs. During night dances torches were often twirled and swung about by dancers, although a war club was the usual implement used for ‘ailao
Probably the fire dance is Fiji started with the influence of the Tongans. Today this tradition is still alive and at the Naqalia Lodge is possible to watch this show and some other typical dance of Fiji. There is a group of young boys that still keep tradition and they love to share it with us … thanks a lot to the BULA BOYS Vinaka
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my
own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get set up?
I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% certain. Any
suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
